When "Eau De Fresh" Turns to "Eww De Fresh"

The tampons smell like flowers. The pads smell like fresh citrus. If it smells so nice, then why isn't it?

Why Scented Tampons and Pads Aren't Good For You

1. Increased risk of infection. Tampons are heavily scented, and these scent chemicals can increase your risk for infections "down there". Now imagine having and infection and a scented tampon or pad. Eww.

2. Can you say, "itchy much"? Those heavy fragrances used in scented pads and tampons can cause irritation and itching, especially for those with sensitive skin, and "down there" is already one of the most delicate and sensitive parts of your body. Such strong scents should not be so close or inside of you. They are not gentle on your skin.

3. The Not-So-Sweet Factor. Menstrual odor in pads is caused by bacterial break down of what's in your pad. As the bacteria starts to decompose the pad, an odor often called menstrual odor is created. If the pad is already scented, the odor will just get stronger, the exact opposite of the hypothetical point for a scented product.

So, even though that little box on the shelf may smell like paradise, do you body a favor and stay fresh by changing more often and showering as opposed to using scented products.
